Resident Evil Extinction

As I had gone to see the first two adaptations of Resident Evil to the cinema, and since I am a large fan of the video games, I had a duty yesterday evening to go and watch the third, Extinction. My hype was very low since the preceding productions differed too much from the original work with laughable scenes and the introduction of a Wonder Woman called Alice, which makes its great return for this full-length film. One of my concern with all these re-creations of popular plays for the cinema, it is precisely that one recreates it with his vision without filling his mandate towards the fans. Paul W.S. Anderson continues to adapt Resident Evil and to transform the story according to his desires. The result is a mixture of Mad Max and Dawn of the Dead which will divert more than one fan.
The propagation of the T virus in the town of Racoon City was not controlled as Umbrella hoped for it, a multinational in the pharmaceutical field. In a matter of a few weeks, all the continents were infected, reducing its inhabitants to vulgar zombies famished of flesh. Water rarefied to disappear completely, transforming the Earth into a sandy surface. The survivors, very few, must travel on the roads because the old cities are too dangerous. Thus, a convoy ordered by Carlos Olivera and Claire Redfield move in the hope to find a place still favourable with life, where the virus would not have travelled. On her side, Alice (acted by splendid Milla Jovovich) always wanders in the search of her creators after fleeing out of the Umbrella laboratories in second film. Without any surprise, the convoy and Alice will cross way. They will try thereafter to go to Alaska, where there would be hope of life according to notes from a note-book found by the woman with super capacities. For the first time, the head of Umbrella Corporation, Albert Wesker, appears. The performance of the actor Jason O' Mara convinced me in spite of its rare moments of intervention in the scenario. He and Doctor Isaacs enter a conflict; Wesker wants a solution with the virus but research of the doctor is long without giving conclusive results. Where the pack wounds with Extinction, it is on the level of the curve of intensity. During these dialogues, one is bored to death. The spectator must wait dozens of minutes before having the next bit of action. To be frank, only one scene is worth this pain in the ass, when the convoy moves to the now-under-sand Las Vegas . The level of gore is there, blood splashes on the screen. Afterwards, nothing, if not the ultimate battle which has a boring ending. The end of the film, as for it, is closer to a Wars Star: The Attack of the clones. On another side, it is perhaps better thus, that does nothing but confirm a fourth film is not required.
I jumped on my chair several times, sometimes of fear, sometimes of dislike. I do not understand the reason that pushed director Russell Mulcahy to give a role to Mike Epps, who plays an idiotic black once again trying to connect gags at the bad time. His interventions do not equal the nightmare seen in Apocalypse (2004), it has more credibility at least. Despite everything, I would have removed it from the list, at least attach to him a tolerable personality, please. I do not recommand this film for those who do not know the videogame, they will not understand anything. Even to the fans, I'd say wait for the DVD.
My conclusion : 2/5
**** SPOILERS ****
The dogs are back with an action scene, one of the rare ones, at the beginning of film.
The famous corridor with the laser is also back twice; it is used as a test for Alice and concludes the final battle against Doctor Isaacs transformed and able to howl so extreme that it destroys walls.
The crows, another enemy from Resident Evil, attack the principal characters and kill some. However, they had not envisaged the capacities a la The Matrix from Alice, which send them all in smoke only by her presence!
The most eccentric and execrable creation of Anderson in these adaptations, the White Queen (a girl which represents the information processing system of the Umbrella laboratories), does not fail to insult us with its interventions a la Star Wars. Kill it with fire!
Alice is Neo with boobs
L.J. (Epps) dies Yay!
Carlos Olivera dies, but before he takes time to smoke weed (no joke!)
