They are all ingame maybe some of them are from the directed moments ubisoft talked about that would blur the line between ingame and pre-rendered cinematics.

They'd be fully playable scenes that look as good as pre-rendered cinematics.

Whoa. I mean wow! This looks fantastic!
The teams that work on the splinter cell series have always done an astonishing job with the visuals so my guess is yes. I think they are real.

I would say yes, if you notice the next gen tag on the bottom right, Ubi did the same thing for their current gen gameplay picks. I can't picture Ubi saying these are next gen gameplay pics when they are not. Ubi's normally pretty good about not BS'ing their costumers.

They look like in-game shots. Very nicely anti-aliased as well.

Wow, just wow. It looks amazing, but then again, if one game was going to look great it would be Splinter Cell.

considering this doesn't look that great (everything is super duper high res, only reason it looks impressive, the poly counts are horrendously low) i'm sure they're real

Lets not forget it'll all look better actually running on a 360.

Plus the game still has a long ways to go in regards to development so it'll only get better :)

This looks good... but the color palette is not gritty/real enough for my tastes (the previous CGI shots/video really are a contrast). The big thing will be how the lighting looks in the game when in motion. So I will reserve judgement until then (mainly because the pictures, less scaling the wall, make the game look flatter than it is). I have never been to interested in SC, although the games have been excellent and this should play great.

4/5 of those were in the scans I posted/emailed some weeks ago

Though not implicitly confirmed the mag did allure to them all being in-game

Remember guys, this is a multi generational, multi console port. They are doing a lot of custom work to it but underneath the frame is the same as all the others.

I think it has become obvious that pictures are not doing these games any justice. The only pic that doesn't strike me as truly next-gen is the final pic in the silo and possibly the one on the stairs, everything else looks incredible.

Yea it should be my mantra because its 100% true there are people that don't own a 360 that have no idea that these games REALLY look much better than any screen or video can show.

At any rate the 360 version will have quite a couple different aspects to it thant he current gen versions. There will be daytime levels in the 360 version of the game the way environments are built will be on a much larger scale and there are gadgets and or weapons that are specific only to the 360 version of the game said by ubisoft themselves.

Same core game, but the 360 has a whole host of extra people wont experience in the xbox or ps2 version of the game.

Look at the high-resolution detail in those textures, and it appears that they are all being effected by the light/shadows etc. rather than being prebaked. I think this will be something that needs to be seen in motion to be appreciated.

They look ok, but imo they seem to cartoony, to colourfull or so...
I have that with PGR3 to, it's a good looking game, but it's to polished, to perfect..

Yep. I think this should be said on thread about such games. Wake me when a Next-Gen exclusive game designed from the ground up with hardware in hand from day 1 appears.

Confirmed: SC: DA is using the Chaos Theory Engine on Xbox 360, NOT a new engine

Gamecloud - What sort of graphical improvements are being made for this fourth installment of the game?

Daniel Roy - By bringing the Chaos Theory engine to the X360, we’re unleashing a very lean and mean engine on next-gen hardware. Our environments are massive now, and some are in broad daylight. Also, we have a variety of environmental effects affecting visibility: such as a snow storm or a dust cloud.

BUTTTTT..............................

check this out

Gamecloud - This will be the first Splinter Cell game for a next-gen console. What additional graphical features and additions will be made for this version of the game.

Daniel Roy - Again, missions are totally originally designed for the X360. One mission, for instance, starts on the top of a 5-star hotel in Shanghai… You can actually see the skyline around you for miles ahead, including boats moving on the river. This type of graphical ambition would not have been possible if we had started with a XBOX design then ‘upgraded’ it to X360… We had to start on X360 from scratch.

I have taken the time to translate.

By bringing the Chaos Theory engine to the X360
Translation: We did not have time to build a new engine, seeing as MS gave us beta kits in Augest and we want to release in 2006. Also, seeing as 98% of console gamers are on older consoles it makes absolutely no fiscal sense to create an engine/gameplay that cannot be ported/codeveloped.
we’re unleashing a very lean
Very lean, as in optimized for the Xbox... but we plan to splash a ton of graphic goodies on top of the DX8 XBox design ala HL2.
and mean engine on next-gen hardware.
So mean it will make you cry!
Our environments are massive now
Yes, having 8x the system memory tends to do that--especially if the GPU *really* can do 125M polys a second! (tongue in cheek snear at NV2A)
and some are in broad daylight.
Yes, you heard that right! Since it is an old engine on new hardware we decided to actually turn on some lights!
Also, we have a variety of environmental effects affecting visibility: such as a snow storm or a dust cloud
You know, because, like, no game before the 360 had snow or dust
missions are totally originally designed for the X360
Yep, totally designed (like how Doom 3's missions were totally re-designed for the Xbox1) -- on the old Chaos Engine!
You can actually see the skyline around you for miles ahead, including boats moving on the river.
Yes, because when we use game design philosphies and engines engineered to run smoothly on a P3 733MHz with 64MB of memory and a GF3 level GPU -- and then slap it on a system about on par with a high end PC -- well, you can really crank up the view distance!
This type of graphical ambition would not have been possible if we had started with a XBOX design then ‘upgraded’ it to X360
Yes, so when we took this older engine, we maxed out all the settings and then designed the game around the maxed out settings on the old engine.

--

Ok, maybe I am being a little too hard. The game looks good and clean -- HD, high res textures, some nice lighting in areas. And they probably are not using the Xbox1 engine, but the SM3.0 engine that appeared last year. That said it is still a multi-platform release using an old engine.

Think HL2. HL2 is a DX7 game. Crank it down to DX7 and check it out--looks good, just missing all the bells and whistles. Slap on these nice effects--that really look nice but don't impact gameplay nor are they really "base" technologies in whcih the art is built/designed around--and walla!

Basically it looks like a high end PC game. Not bad mind you, but this is the 360--it is closed box and not constrained by the laggers with GF4 Ti4200 GPUs!

As MS said last year: It is up to MS to lead developers. They did a good job with PGR3 of raising the bar. GRAW, from UBI, looks to be another title that aims for a high standard. FRN3, graphically, from EA likewise attacked it.

So it will happen, but I think what most are seeing is that we wont be seeing "next gen" until late 2006, and no console dedicated games until 2007. I have heard this from developers themselves, I have been saying it for a while. Fiscally, if you read the Publishers reports, they don't expect to fully transition to Next Gen until 2007.

Basically we get NICE upgraded titles plus a few real gems in there that impress. Better something than nothing, but I will be glad when we read,

"We did our first title for the 360 launch window and really got to see what the hardware did. After we got the title out we spent a couple months really pushing the dev kit seeing where the bottlenecks were. Our lead programmers got up a basic rendering and animation system, made target specs, we then produced some art boards for art direction for the engine we were to build and THEN we began developing the game... it took us 24+ months to get it done, but we really hit the 360 hard".

That sounds much better than "Remember guys, this is a multi generational, multi console port. They are doing a lot of custom work to it but underneath the frame is the same as all the others. "

That said graphics are only 1 equation in a game. I am not sure many of us will complain with a high end PC looking game that ROCKS in gameplay. :D
