Fight Night 3 demo video
2006-01-05 09:39:16 by BlimBlim
Electronic Arts had the excellent idea to release a playable demo of Fight Night Round 3 on the Xbox Live Market Place last night, so I just had to make a video of it. As always I play very poorly, but you should be used to it by now :) I have to say these are the most impressive graphics I've ever got to see running in realtime on my TV ever, wow !

It adds so much to the user interaction when it looks this realistic.
This game seems to be more consistent in it's effect though, and at the same rate, wearing out it's effectiveness...
As a previous poster mentioned, he's getting less excited with each revealing of ingame material.
That's how it goes, I s'pose.
Not that the game has gotten a worse look, just that maybe all the release material has jaded some users.

I also wrote that I think it's very impressive (though it seems gameplay-wise the speed was toned down a bit, compared to the second part).
Demo played awesome. I hope they do this kinda stuff more often. Put a demo out 1-2 months before it is released.

(Full Auto has been available from issue #2 of the OXM)
Just reading on Gamespot that the CES demo was much more recent than the build we got, wonder why they didn't put their version live?

Wow, that just looks fantastic. If i didn't know that was game footage, it could easily be mistaken for live TV. Now i just want to see some stadium stages with huge crowds.

I usually just sit on the side lines and just look at everything on the site, and check out what others have to say, but after watching this vid. I just got to leave a comment, as the graphics are top notch, and I love those close up replay shots. Seeing the skin wrinkle up, blood and spit spu. Also I noticed that when he moved near the leg, the leg would actually move, when he was taken down. Very good colision detection, best I seen. Only complaint, some of the animations were stiff, but I'm sure that will be ironed out on the final retail version. Very realistic, never thought video games would get this real, this quickly.
Just too also add, that EA seems to be pushing alil more for next gen, as I seen the screen shots to the 360's version of Def Jam 3 and it looks if not alil better than this. EA is showing there worth now, about freaking time.
And by the way Blim-man, awesome site, always come here to get the skinny first before checking the other game sites. Keep it up!!! *applaudes*

Watched the video.. Looks like it has a lot of potential but they do need to smooth out some of those animation and transitions between them. What stands out the most are those creepy bird-like(flinchy) movements of the head and arms.

Played the demo as well and the first thing i thought was WOW. But after playing a few matches and letting the wow effect sink down a bit you start noticing the bad things. The animations a bit choppy sometimes(very noticable when you duck around a bit when dodging punches). Then there are the bugs, like replay's when the camera moves through a fighter and when a guy get's knocked down that he keeps bouncing. The whole animation when you of your opponent gets knocked down is bad if you ask me, it looks completely fake. Then you got some low-res texture issues like that of the ground of the ring, wich looks pretty bad up close. All these negative things wouldn't make the game bad, but then there is the gameplay itself. I think that the controls don't alway's respond directly enough wich sometimes really get's annoying. I'm definitely not going to buy this game, because i really doubt that a game like this will have a big replay and duration value. There really won't be much more to do in the full game than in this demo. All you will have a way more fighters and arena's, but really nothing else. And there really won't be a goal in the game like in other fighting games, where you can unlock more characters. Even if you will be able to unlock some more boksers, what's the use they will all have the same moves.

I don't like how EVERYTIME they get knocket out, they always have to spill some blood, is it really necessary? Come on, we know there are some ok blood effects, but don't overuse them.

I watched the video that blim put up. Good to see a fight that lasted longer than about 4 punches. Which one were you though blim? Cos Burnard "B-Hop" Hopkins got an absolute kicking, but he was on the left side of the screen (the default player-1 side). It seemed that B-hops punches were all soft, slow cat strokers. Whilst the other guys (the guy on the rights) punches were all hard hittin' haymakers. Which one were u blim?
EDIT: Forgot to mention that i thought this game looks out of this world. Some small problems it seems with clipping and some slow jerky animations. But looks like a Knockout rental title.

visually impressive, but sort out the twitchy animation of the characters doent make it seem enjoyable. I also dont like the sudden camera movement when a strike lands, some of punches have no effect on the fighter either. I love the knock out period
no ref either.

It's funny how easily you become used to nex gen graphics.
When i first saw this, i was blown away by it, but now i'm less impressed.
Don't get me wrong it's probably the best graphics i've seen on the 360 so far, but as usual when things get hyped up too much you begin to expect too much.
Im left wanting more .. saying that i'm not a boxing fan.

I downloaded the demo the minute it updated last night, and I must say, I'm amazed. Out of all the 360 games I've played so far, this one feels the most deserving of the title "next-gen".
To start, the graphics are absolutely mind-blowing. These are the most impressive visuals I have ever seen in a game. The character models are so good, if your freinds and family don't see you holding the controller, they will think you are watching a real fight. The level of detail is insane. Even in the close up knock out shots they are flawless. The characters are a staggering 3 million polygons each, and it shows. They are perfectly rounded. You will have an extremely tough time spotting poly edges. Add on the realistic skin textures and lighting effects and you have the most impressive models to ever run in real-time. MGS4 won't seem so impressive anymore once you play this game.
Graphics aren't the only next-gen part of FNR3. The gameplay is equally impressive. The core gameplay hasn't changed much since FNR2, but it dosn't need to. The new camera angles, HUDless screen, and incredible facial animations more than make up for the lack of gameplay innovation. With these new additions, the immersive level of the series has skyrocketed. The characters can take up to 2/3 of the screen at one time, with no clutter whatsoever. Not only does it allow you to fully appreciate the game's stunning visuals, but it makes the game a whole lot more intense. You'll see the anger in an attackers eyes, and the shock in the defender's as he takes a hard blow to the face. Sweat wil spray realistically off his cheeks as they ripple from the impact. He'll stumble, trying to regain balance. These might seem like only visual improvements, and they are, but it adds such a great feel of brutality to the fight. It really captures the intensity of the sport. FNR3 is one of those rare examples where graphics actually have an impact on the game. You'll have to study the movement and physical status of your character to know his condition. Like I said, the game is HUDless, meaning no haelth bars.
But sadly, FNR3 isn't prefect. There are a few clipping issues here and there, and the dodge animations are pretty stiff compared to rest of the game. Thankfully it's not as huge a problem as many of you are making it out to be. When actually playing you never really pay attention to such things. My biggest problem with the demo was the slow motion replays. The animations are very choppy in slow motion, and they never highlight anything special. It's always just some 5 second clip of a rather uninteresting part of the fight. Let's just hope EA fixes these problems for the retail version.
Overall, I am very impressed with the FNR3 demo. This is one of the 360's most promising titles for 2006.
