The first 10 minutes: [eM] -eNCHANT arM- part 2
2006-01-14 14:24:17 by BlimBlim
As promised, here is the second part from the video I've done of [eM] -eNCHANT arM-, this time with my first impressions of the game.
A third video may appear in a few days, if the first boss fight is interesting.
Update: Low-res version of the video online.
1 linked game : Enchanted Arms
First of all graphically this is definitely not a killer game. It has some nice textures and effects, but it really looks like it's a quick upgrade of a Xbox game to Xbox 360. Nothing screams next gen so far except the nice 720p resolution with antialiasing. It certainly looks better than any jRPG so far (I'm not commenting on artistical stuff here), but that's it.
Gameplay wise this is very old school. Run around, do you objectives, destroy a few boxes to get some free stuff, and fight. Sometimes the camera is free, sometimes in smaller rooms it's fixed and changes only to help see some stuff.
The battle system is your typical grid based system. Move your character, then choose what to do, be it a support power or kick the enemies ass. Of course each move has a certain distance it can be used at, so you have to be placed accordingly on the grid. Well, you know the drill.
I can't comment on the story since I do not understand japanese, but so far from the tone of the dialogs (most are dubbed, but the less important stuff is only subbed) the scenario is still in the "easygoing" phase.
eM looks like a very typical jRPG, with some good but not incredible production values.

I had to delete the first comment because of a bug (?), not that it was interesting in the first place, but still.

It didn't do too well in japan anyway, maybe the lead character needs to dress like a school girl or something?

Isn't the point of these forums so people can post their opinion, whether it's a essay or just 2 words or funny or boring or whatever.

Thats what i thought at least. Blim did nto liek my comment on the part one post either. Thought the wholepoint was that people as sad as me looked at these pages and the forum and then expressed our views on what we saw. Sometimes being purposefull provokative to goad 360/halo/sega/rpg zealots into making rude response and in the process making some mates?
Anyway my mum just told me i am not boring.

As for a US release, some people think it will happen. I sure have my doubts though.

I would think they'd need to make a lot of changes to the game to get this to sell in the US.

Thank you for the low-res version. My Powerbook just isn't fast enough to handle the high res videos.
The game looks good graphically, but I just can't stand some of the voice overs. Do japanese girls really talk like that? And the guys sound even worse.

Blim, after I read your brief review of this game, I'm not sure if I want to download the file. I agree with your comments. From the time I first saw this game, I always had my doubts about the visuals being defined as next gen. Many people purchased a 360 because it's a leap above the Xbox hardware. It doesn't matter how much power is at the developers disposal. Developers didn't get it right with the Xbox , and it looks as if the trend will continue. I used to think that a lot of gamers were asking for too much from this next generation of hardware, but when I see games like this putting out the aspect of current generation; I feel that I've been taken advantage of as a consumer. It's harder to hide poor graphics in hi-def. Putting a game in 720p doesn't make it evolutionary. And these bastards claimed that it would be hard to fit their game onto one disc. Give me a break. They may get away with this kind of product for now, but when the triple A titles hit the market this game will be a faded memory.

well I did see some good things on the vid, like drawing distance and the architecture models.
