Ghost Recon: AW images
2006-01-20 15:36:26 by BlimBlim
Ubisoft just sent me these images of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter. The first seven are from the multiplayer mode, developed in the US, and the last 2 are from the single player game, developed in France.

They look good but not great, sorry. I will buy this game in any case but graphics are not the main reason.

I think anyone who doubts Ubisoft, should owe the team an apology when this game is released. There were people who doubted the Xbox360 version of Fight Night Round3 when it was first shown, but now it clearly surpasses the graphics of the E3 tech demo. Developers are coming to grips with the hardware very fast.

For example just for a second imagine the first or last 2 screenshots being rendered in real-time in motion on your xbox360. There are certain limits for a screenshot to which they can't do the game properl justice and this is one such occassion.
For example I'm sure some people will look at that second to last screen shot and say to themselves "I'm not that impressed by this", In that picture the textures don't seem that detailed or have a washed out feel to it, but being fair how can we truly know or appreciate what that scene is suppose to be showing us if we are just looking at it from a screenshot.
A commen misconception is that simply because we are looking at a screenshot taken from the game in question, running on the console its suppose to run on, we might be fooled into thinking that this screenshot doesn't lie, but how many here have computers that could accurately produce (through a screenshot) down to the last detail everything that scene is suppose to be showcasing as if it were running on an actual 360?
It can't be done through a screenshot this is a 3D game we are talking about, what screenshots do for us is give us an indication they can't be as accurate as we'd like them to be. Even the latest fight night round 3 screenshots wont do the final game justice. Guarantee when we are running that game on our 360s it'll look far superior to anything those screens can show us. God of war for the ps2 doesn't look that impressive from screens, but is quite a sight when on a ps2, same for ninja gaiden black underwhelming from screens, but on the actual xbox?
A perfect example of screenshots not doing a game proper justice is this one right here.

but this next one looks great and will look better when on a 360 just like the last screen http://xboxyde.com/pop_image.html?G=2394&N=1

Optimus: Spot on mate, the movement, lighting and sound will add such a huge amount to the atmosphere of the game that these screenshots offer only a tiny part of the experience.

I dig everything except the red and green markers. Sure it suppose to help you in combat, but I think it's distracting. Guess I'll have to wait to play it to find out.
This looking like the Xbox version? That's like saying your sister looks as good as a supermodel. The only thing I find annoying is the fact that they are bringing this game to PS2/Xbox. When a game is developed multiplatform, it becomes a resource hog, and had not they done that, it may have made launch. This game needs to move on, we have enough Ghost Recon on the current gen. LOL.

i hope they let you turn off the grainy effect,...i mean i'm supposed to be a soldier,... not a camera mounted to a soldiers back that is recieving some sort of intereferance and can't get a fuzz free image,....
other than that looks good

uh..what if my sister is a super model?
I would just like to know what about this game doesn't look good?
and also what game avaliable within the next 3 months (or now) looks significantly better?
The textures are detailed and sharp, the lighting looks good but not overdone the geometry is smooth and the colors are vibrant but not cartoon like. I can understand not liking the grain effect but that in no way makes the game look bad.

Oh and grifter don't forget about Gears of Wars that's going to be showing up within the next 3 months and of course fight night.and so many more not saying they make this game look bad, but there are tons of graphical monsters coming out in the next 3 months :D

Does screenshot #3 not remind anyone of the Silent Cartographer from Halo?

What are you talking about. This is a photo. I have a digital camera. I have photos that look just like these images when I increase the size. You're naive to think that the game will visually look like the first seven images as far as the grainy look. I suppose you don't think that the Killzone 2 trailer lookd grainy. I have that trailer in HD and it looks damn close to the images, but in motion it's not as noticeable. Use some common sense.

You'll like it when you see how beautiful it will look on when running on your 360. Alot of shading to add such texture to things.
But I guess we will see...I hope he's right, because I really want this game to be kickass, but from what I have seen, the game looks unimpressive. And it's not that I feel the textures are "washed out" Optimusv2, its the fact that nothing is normal mapped (look how flat the road is in the last screenshot...can you say PS1?) and notice how everything actually has a "flat" feel to it..nothing sticks out and nothing looks like a real texture...thats the problem. I mean hell, even GR2 had textures that looked 3D...there is no excuse for it.
To be honest, I was really hoping for an FPS view for the 360 version...like the one they showed at E3...I still don't know why they had to take it out.
