Saint's Row trailer
2006-01-25 23:39:57 by Manager
THQ released this new trailer of Saint's Row. It shows some gameplay sequences from both the single player mode and the multiplayer mode, and most of it looks very good. 35 single player missions doesn't sound that much though, but there will of course be so much more to do in this city.

I could explain about how genres have developed and how we build and improve throughout history...but I feel that a semi-brief lecture of such unrefuteable truth and common sense would be an utter waste of time on such a lazy mind as yours.

Looks like I'm the only one that liked the music, lol.
Not a sound I would buy on CD, but I thought it fit really well.

If someone calls a game a ripoff, then they're calling every game a ripoff. Is Halo a ripoff when there were tons of humans vs. aliens FPS before it? It's the genre, deal with it.

this game looks savage!
i mean who cares if its the same kind of idea as GTA....thats great!
no way is this a lazy project!looks like alot of effort went to it....some1 said the city doesn't scream next-gen....and your opinion is based on what?...a low res trailer of maybe early build videos...we haven't even seen the weather effects yet or the day to night cycle in action...i myself think this game screams the fucking roof off in terms of next gen!
i mean what do you want!we dont even know how big the city or even cities are yet..gta san andreas while being a great game had terrible frame rate issues and even worse graphics, graphics dont make a game...the immersion does..the fact you can play GTA for 16 hours straight and not get bored...thats what makes a great game...graphics while being important..don't!
but the fucking graphics on this game even form the earlier builds i saw are amazing
LAZY!
HA!u my friend are what i would call...a cottenheadedninnymuggins!
by the way any info on MP numbers?

anyone who thinks this game doesn't look good needs their eyes checked to say is doesn't look next~would imply that it could be done on the current and we all know thats BS

The game is also 60% complete, so that means no depth field, steady framerate, anti-aliasing..yet.
Judging a game that's still in production is like judging a book that's halfway through its first draft or a new car still in the preproduction phase.

I think this game is brilliant in terms of the gameplay and the features built into the game engine, seemless intergration of indoor and outdoor, the physics, the customization, graphics and online intergration makes this game a good try at making the freeroaming genre better.
I may not be a GTA killer, but it's fun, it's giving GTA some competition and brings ideas to the table that the next GTA game should adopt in it's next generation game.
All said this game doesn't compare to the current GTA in terms of length of game and content such as vehicles (where are the bikes, planes, boats, helicopters, scooters, bmx etc.) but it makes up for it in online play.
I look forward to playing this game especially with the gang war idea online.

I'm only suggesting comments based on what we've seen and so far 30+ missions doesn't sound like much, unless they are huge missions that go of into many branch ways like some GTA missions.
But I haven't seen anything but cars or heard of other drivable vehicles besides that, so I only hope that there more than just cars.

reading over some articles at theinquirer.net, i thought this quote here fits this game haha: (http://theinquirer.net/?article=29257)
'But I see it as another symptom of the floundering game industry. It's written somewhere that there's nothing new under the sun, and that may be more true for video games than anything else at the moment. With sequels upwards of 5 becoming commonplace, and almost every single game falling into neat categories like FPS, RTS, RPG, there comes a point where you say, "I've totally played this game before, except the main character had blue hair instead of purple. Yay, another sixty bucks down the drain." '
and yeah, that's how it is with majority of games now, but i think this game is just too much of that.
ok, i'll quit with the hate.

Any details about multiplayer/live options? How many players? What kind of gamemodes and so on? Voltion hans't done anything really good in my opinion, but just hoping they get it right this time. And whats the deal whit that whining "gta rip-off" cr*ap? Sure its one of the best games ever done, but Rockstar hans't even announced that they are making gta series game for xbox360. At least not yet. So this game is going to be at least something like gta games and should be out soon.

"almost every single game falling into neat categories like FPS, RTS, RPG,"
It was easy for old games to be non-classifiable. Due to hardware limitations, they were much more abstract than the games of today. Now, now that hardware allows them to, games REPRESENT or SIMULATE experiences -- like warfare, for example. How can you represent warfare? Through the eyes of the player (FPS), with a floating camera (third person action), or strategically (turn based or RTS). Obviously the number of genres is going to be limited.

People are still ridiculously comparing next gen games to ps2 and xbox games?? Lets be serious here no ps2 or xbox game can look this good its like Ghost recon all over again...
The only game i've seen so far that would deserve such criticism is frame city the early screens and dead rising (the early screens) People take a glance at an entire scene nowadays and if it doesn't look as good as the boxers in fight night look then it looks current gen.
What determines a game's next gen quality is the improved clarity. How everything is visible everywhere unless its a REALLY far distance where things are out of focus. But like buildings the doors, windows, walls, pipes whatever the case they should appear clearly nothing blurred or some windows not showing up properly and again never judge games via screens or videos especially next gen games.
Hell even bad looking next gen games still outshine ps2 or xbox games.
Also you can create your own online gang like a clan??? Good god that is hilarious :)

After playing Half Life 2 on the Xbox I wondered why we needed the next gen. We could have gone two more years.
I think technically, the game looks better than most people give it credit for. But artisically, it looks pretty drab. After seeing the awesome lightmaps baked into the levels of Half life 2, and how believable the 3d sets looked with old tires, paper, debris, even telephone wires, I would definitely say this is a case of a next gen game- just not in the hands of a developer who wants to spend 7 years developing it.

Totally agreed Venkman; the Xbox shouldn't die out so quick.
As well, I think its a good thing dev's are moving on to the 360 as it's a totally different monster.
They'll need all the time they can get to tame it.
