E3: Gameplay video of Splinter Cell 4
2006-05-10 02:19:39 by snoopers
Splinter Cell: Double Agent has a lot of demo booths available at the showroom MS organized after the press conference. So it was natural that I recorded a few videos of the E3 demo. This demo has 2 playable levels: the polar zone and the oriental one. It's this one I've decided to share with you during these 7 minutes of gameplay. Contrary to the rather bad looking gameplay shown during the conference, the game looks very good graphically. It's not quite easily spotable in this vidéo because of the HDR, but when seeing it directly from the screen it's very convincing.
Update: Little "polar zone" clip added, with superb aquatic effects. The full level piece will come a bit later.

The sample has good graphics. Not mind blowing.
Loved the water effects, especially when the camera comes up from the water, very well done.

Now this is starting to look next gen, maybe SC:5 will push the system to the limits, it looks good but I expect better becuase SC:CT looked almost like a PC. When they get around to acutally developing a new engine for the SC series then your going to see something amazing... this is just using the SC:CT engine, at least what I've read about it.

Some of that looks amazing, reminds me of the RE5 trailer obviously not as high quailty, the game seems to be using very basic low res textures in a lot of places, duno if they will change that or not.
But when you look at the town/village from a wide angle it looks really good.
Looking forward to this game ..

Great vid! The direction this game is going is definately original, but finally, it has more of a freedom to it. You don't have your precious HQ to fall back on. It looks like this mission is gonna make Sammy think about investing a little more in his 401k than buying the latest spy gear :-P.

Not to be a buzkill and this is even odd of me to say but I am unsettled by the premise of this game game. I'm just strictly speaking on the basis that I generally get involved in the story and characters in franchises like this one. Sam is an awesome character and I love how he's changed in the games, but this one is going to be a test of loyalty. It will be good, don't get me wrong, but there's just something unsettling about Sam Slitting the throat of a Splinter Cell agent for the sake of the mission. What other things will Sam be doing as a double agent. He very well may be doing many of the things that he was sent to prevent in past Splinter Cell games. This is going to be one game cloaked in moral ambiguity for the splinter cell series.
So that aside, The cinematics are awesome, much better than the earlier versions. I don't know who animated the last games' CGI but some of them looked iffy.

Well, we'll see when E3 will open its doors...
And Gears of War was a hell of a ride too, if you like cover-based TPS games.
