In the part of the conference focused on accessories, we had a sneek peek of the 360 HD-DVD reader, done with the help of a classic masterpiece, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. Image was sharp and price was sweet: ¥19.500, about $160 in the US. Can't wait for the "real" US price...

From this pics it looks like it got the very same green problem ans PS2 while playing DVD's Oo, but I guess it's just the video itself.

I think the green is WMP11 its got its problems they will probably update it in the next patch.

if you see the same video on Gamevideos from 1up, there is no green tinge. snoopers took this offscreen while oneup took it directfeed. there is no green tinge, its only the light

the 'green' seems to be showing on the blade too, so I'd assume there is a giant green light below the screen that is reflecting.

rupbert, why would it have been upscaled? And by what?
I'm a little confuzzled by your statement, since:
A. all movies on HD-DVD are natively 1080p
B. MS recently announced that the 360 will be updated to be able to output 1080p
C. with the HD-DVD attachment, the 360 can play HD-DVDs
So, i would have assumed that if it was at 1080p then that would have been done by the 360. And if not, then the 360's current native 720p or 1080i

I thought Tokyo Drift had been encoded in 1080i, but it is indeed 1080p. I assume then this was being run through vga as 1080p over component isn't currently permitted...

Rupbert, lets not forget Microsoft have not confirmed or denied the existence of a HDMI cable, or even whether the 360 GPU outputs digital signals. Amongst the tech-heads, the majority are now convinced the latter is true, and the GPU does indeed have digital-video capabilities, after many sources discovering the 360 Mobo has a chip which is present on the latest ATI HDMI/HDCP compliant cards.

I'd be amazed if the gpu was not capable of digital video processing, but how on earth can they introduce an HDMI/DVI connection without actually incoporating it into the motherboard?

Yes you very well can output 1080p (and even higher resolutions) over componant cables. There have been products that have been out for years, even though somewhat rare, that do this.
The myth that you cannot is a lie (of omission) perpetrated upon the consumer by Sony and other CE companies and certain Hollywood studios in the lead-up to the launch of blu-ray to convince as many consumers as possible that they had to adopt HDMI. The fact that blu-ray drives only output the 1080p resolution via HDMI and that some of the newer television sets only accept 1080p signals via HDMI is put their to reinforce this lie.
But the facts are that Japanese consumer electronics giants like Mitsubishi, JVC and other high-end OEMs have been creating DVD players, cable/satelite TV boxes and television sets/projectors that output/accept a 1080p signal over componant cables for around five years now (HDMI has only even been around for the last three years). Even now as we speak, there are a slew of Chinese made and distributed consumer electronics product that sends and recieves 1080p signal via componant cables. The Chinese have gone so far as to create their own hi-def video disc standard (basically encoding HD on standard DVDs) that will output 1080p over componant.
So when M$ tells you they are doing 1080p via componant cables on the Xbox 360, do not be alarmed or amazed (well, if you feel like being alarmed that you were so completely lied to by the CE and movie industries, lied to enough that you fell for it hook, line and sinker - well, feel free to be alarmed about that) as this is nothing new and has been going on for years . . . oh, and HD-DVD, unlike blu-ray, does not restrict the 1080p signal output to HDMI only
What does this mean for the Xbox 360 owner? It means that even Xbox Three-Shitty (tardpack) owners can get in on the 1080p goodness. PS3 tardpack owners are not going to get off so luckily.

i know its german, but: Nach den bisherigen AACS-Lizenzvorgaben soll die analoge Ausgabe ab 2011 nur noch für die Standardauflösung erlaubt und ab 2014 ganz abgeschaltet werden
translated: in 2011 analog signals only for standard resolutions and in the year 2014 completey turned off, meaning no hd via analog signals anymore.. so thats a lot of time till the restriction will become effective
