Blue Dragon videos!

A japanese gamer had the chance to find Blue Dragon a few days before the official release date, and had the excellent idea to broadcast his discovery of the game via a peercast. I've of course captured it as soon as I heard about it, and I'll reencode some parts of it when I find something interesting. The spoiler videos will be marked as such.
As expected from a stream the quality is very average, and I've had a very very hard time finding a way to reencode it too. The pauses in the video are due to this process, the actual game is of course very smooth.

Update4: Less fun than the last one, this new video should please the fans of jRPGs as it shows the overworld. The others will certainly behave much like the bear at the end of the video and maybe should keep out of the comments ;)

I wouldn't say that about the story jolli because as I was watching last night I saw a rather lengthy cutscene where nene had all of them trapped in what appears to be maru's tribe and that was a pretty lengthy engagement and after the whole ordeal maru ran off crying then the other 3 went over to him to make him feel better as he was crying then he started explaining all these things. Maybe I got a nice jist of the story and I liked it. Maybe I just caught it at the right time, in your case there are many reasons for why you probably felt the way you did.
#1 you aren't the person playing
#2 don't understand the language anyway to know whats going on
#3 the person playing is simply not at such a point in the story where any significant plot developments take place or they just want to keep battling to gain some exp.

I mean lets face it the game already had enough going against it already.
Laggy stream, 320x180 resolution someone else playing the game maybe playing it in a way rather unsatisfying to you because you'd do things much different. Nobody is really in a position to make judgements until they themselves are playing the game and can actually understand everything going on.

I don't really care guys, i watched it, i had an opinion, i expressed it, if you don't agree with it, that's fine.
dcdelgado you don't even like this game or the genre, so don't tell me what i should be expecting from a genre which i play 80% of the time.
Anyways i won't say anymore about it, seeing as i don't know what i'm talking about.

All we truly understand from these vids is that the resolution is extremely low, its laggy, they are walking around in the game world and getting into fights. I just think that you of all people would understand whats going on here. I'm pretty sure you if you were to be watching someone else play any amazing rpg like say final fantasy 7 you'd be underwhelmed by it too. There are stretches in final fantasy 7 where unless you are playing yourself you wouldn't find to be a very entertaining watch by any stroke of the imagination. There are periods in ff7 where you are just in a town where nothing overly significant to the plot is taking place or you are on your way to another place and engage in a number of battles along the way. None of that stuff is exciting to watch ESPECIALLY if you aren't the one playing and don't have any idea of whats being said.
I can pick out any of the best rpgs out there and guarantee there are moments in the game that aren't very appealing to watch.. something that most people would find underwhelming unless they themselves are there experiencing the story firsthand. With rpgs you know one can't judge a book by its cover and thats what appears to be happening right now. The guy playing must be having fun, but since we aren't the ones playing that isn't the case :) He's enjoying searching and picking stuff up and going around the world we are watching so we are taken out of the experience.

Optimus, go back read my first post, I think I clearly said it could be because it's someone else playing.
None of my statements have been even slightly definitive either, it's an opinion, nothing more.
But after watching 3 hours of video I have come away thinking that it's pretty average.
I was expecting something that would blow me away, it looks good, but doesn't look mind blowing.
But i will say it again; until I play it I won't know.
Fact is Optimus you are hardly someone to have a go about me coming to ridiculous conclusions when you are the same person who hyped Too Human up.
I said above i didn't want to say any more about it because i don't think the front page of this forum is a good place to having this discussion, so kindly drop it, thanks.

What does me being getting really excited about what I read about too human have to do with this? You made a very bad comparison there jolli because what I did with too human and what you are now doing with this game is 2 entirely different things. We can have a discussion about something we don't agree on without things getting immature and I don't think I'm responding to you in a way that would be seen as offensive which is why I'm still talking about it.
I was hyped about too human then the game showed up at E3 and I judged it based on the horrible framerate, unimpressive looking combat with questionable animations, bad camera and an overall lack of polish from what appeared to be a game in its early stages that wasn't ready for show after all the incredible things the developer said.
I did NOT however for example from what I saw jump to conclusions and make any definitive judgements about the quality of the game's story or how it would turn out based on what I saw at E3 because while I noticed its faults I still have high hopes that they'll fix the shortcomings. I don't suddenly not care about too human after E3 I still hang on every word from the developer on its state. Now... in your case however you are being much more unfair. You don't understand the language, you have no idea what's going on, we can barely see the game to begin with.. as the videos are so small. What you are seeing in blue dragon is pretty much the norm for ANY jrpg out there and based on just that you're making comments about the game's story or that it doesn't look mindblowing. Since when in any rpg did walking around in a town talking to people or exploring a world map, without any idea of whats going on look like anything that could be called exciting or mindblowing? Never not even in the best jrpgs ever made.. which is why I say I think you are jumping to conclusions under the wrong conditions. When you are playing the game and can understand whats going on then you are in a better position to pass judgement on the game as a whole.
I mean we are pretty much in the same boat as you are. We've been watching the stream on and off and for different periods of time and nobody else appears to be jumping to conclusions.

Well IMO, I watched the same stream earlier, and this part didn't really wow me. Not the story or anything, just the overall art design. I'm not bashing it just wasn't feeling. Every JRPG has that, you love some parts, and eh at others. However, the part where he goes to the underground water cave really wow'd me. I mean I actually sat there with my mouth down for a couple of times during that whole level. I really liked everything about it.
But commenting on a games overall Story, when you only seen like what 3 hours out of a 35-50 hour game? Na thats not needed. Hell thats like looking at someone play the first 3 hour tutorial with Roxas in KH2 and then coming to the conclusion that the whole game will be like that, and it's boring.

Come off it Optimus the video's are plenty big enough and aren't really that bad in quality.
I do understand the lanuage just not very well .. :P nor can i read kanji, but i managed to play both KH2 and FF12 in Japanese all the way through.
I later played them both in english and even though i understood more I didn't enjoy them anymore than the first time i played through them, infact probably less as i had already been through it all.
It really doesn't matter, i'm not calling this game crap by any stretch of the imagination, and i should have guessed you would be one of the people to bite at my opinion.
Like i said though you don't have to agreee with me or even read my post's, especially if it annoys you so deeply.
I really liked the cutscene i discribed above it was quite happy and light hearted, the rest of what i have seen has been quite depressing lol.
I guess i was expecting it to be more happy and kiddish.

hehe no need to spoiler that part kenshin I already knew about that cave without even playing the game :D
Nonetheless we'll just agree to disagree for now. The last vid is really cool this is the stuff I was saying I saw last night, but I saw a bit before as well when nene was there with his robot and that little creature.
Yea you're entitled to your opinion the wait is so hard for the game :D

As i have said until i play it myself and probably for 10 hours + i won't come to any such conclusion.
I'm really liking the battle sequences in this game, although i don't have a clue what all the spells and moves are.
Seems that Shu and Muramuro have abilities (like throwing a ball of light or water) where as Jiro and Kluke cast spells (like a flood of water or breathing fire) which is quite cool.

It'll be hard to do, but I'm now done with all Blue Dragon videos blim's first 10 minutes vid will be my absolute last. I'll watch that then I'll suffer the long wait till the game's usa release :(
